General Information

The Crossroads Classic planning committee is proud to announce the first ever data-thon brought to you by the generous support of Visualize your Technology, Atrium AI, Pacers Sports Entertainment, and Tableau. Featuring Master of Ceremonies long term local news great, Ken Owen, the data-thon will begin promptly at 7am Friday February 10th and will feature a full day of exciting competition and events in Butler University’s state of the art eSports park.

Competitions: The data-thon consists of two independent competitions.

12-hour case competition – The 12 hour case competition will challenge students to use modern techniques in data visualization and modeling to create an innovative solution which will be presented to a panel of judges from the Atrium AI and the Indiana Pacers. As part of the competition students will receive a free license for Tableau desktop, access, to our state-of-the-art PCs, and a one hour training from a Tableau solutions engineer. Additionally, each team will be assigned a coach to provide tips and tricks along the way. The competition is open to any student from the competing schools and will be broken into undergraduate and graduate divisions. First and second place teams will be awarded a prize pack including scholarship dollars, internship opportunities, and swag!

1-hour Underclassman competition – Crafted exclusively for underclassman, this one-hour competition challenges students that lack experience in advanced analytics and business intelligence to work with Microsoft Office or the tool of their choice to aggregate data and construct a visually appealing final report. As a bonus Tableau Solution Engineers will be providing a one-hour training on Tableau desktop and students will receive a free one-year license to Tableau. First and second place teams will receive up to $500 in cash prizes as well as a prize pack.
